Target Data System - Quick Start

The information on this page will help you get started using the OnTarget TDS program. The following sections outline the steps necessary to install the program and analyze your first target. More detailed information about the program is contained in the Help system that is installed with the program.

Installation and Configuration:

  • Download the latest version of OnTarget TDS.
  • Run Setup.exe to install the program on your computer.
  • After installation double click on the OnTarget TDS icon to start the program.
  • The splash screen shows the number of days remaining on the free trial. Click the Try button to continue.
  • Go to Tools/Options and set DPI to 300 and Brightness to 110, check the boxes for Show Scan Sources and One Touch Scanning, then click OK.

Analyze Target:

  • Print several targets.
  • Shoot one shot per bull.
  • Start the OnTarget TDS program.
  • Scan the target using the Scan Target toolbar button. Enter the target number if prompted.
  • Set the target distance and bullet hole size in the Group Info tab.
  • Click the Analyze Target button, the bulls and holes are automatically located
  • Click the Show Target Data button to see the composite group of all shots

These steps will get you started with the TDS program. The settings may require further adjustment for best performance with your system. Targets can be printed from inside the program or from the .pdf files in the Targets folder under the TDS installation folder. The targets must be printed in color for the automatic bull and hole detection to operate properly.

Note: A good system first test is to scan a target without holes and click on the Find Bulls toolbar button. Each bull will be located and an empty group added to the list. You can also draw a bullet hole on several bulls, rescan, and click the Analyze Target button. The bulls and holes will be located and displayed on the target along with the distance from the aim point to the center of the hole.

TDS Hotkeys:
Hotkeys perform an operation directly without using the mouse to click a toolbar button or menu item.
